This evening cruise is an excellent and very popular boat tour among tourists here in Budapest, and it is considered one of the most booked tours on GetYourGuide, with excellent reviews and a 4.1 out of 5 rating based on around 6,000 verified reviews.
We took this cruise a few weeks ago and can definitely recommend it as one of the best in the city. We chose the option that included a drink, which we received as soon as we boarded. On the lower deck, a live band was playing Hungarian folk music alongside well-known classical pieces. We stayed for a while to listen but soon went up to the open upper deck to enjoy the fresh air and the evening views.
It is worth noting that this cruise does not include live commentary or an audio guide. This didn’t bother us, but for some travelers it might be important. Another tip: you should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure in order to secure good seats on the upper deck (this is the area everyone wants to sit in).
The route of the cruise is excellent, passing by all the major landmarks visible from the Danube, including the Hungarian Parliament Building, Chain Bridge, Margaret Bridge, Matthias Church, Fisherman’s Bastion, Buda Castle, Gellért Hill and the Statue of Liberty (Citadella), the National Opera House, the National Theatre, and St. Stephen’s Basilica.
This is a 90-minute cruise operated by Hungaria Koncert, offering two evening departures daily at 19:00 and 22:00. If you are looking for a late-night cruise in Budapest, this is one of the few options available, with a departure as late as 22:00.
There is also an option to add dinner on board for an extra charge. We personally did not choose this and were satisfied with our drink. The cruise departs from a very central pier area in Budapest (Antall József rkp), close to the Chain Bridge, although it can be a little tricky to find (look for the boat named Gróf Széchenyi). We recommend booking in advance to secure your date. You can do so here.
