Elisabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd) in Budapest is one of the city’s main landmarks and serves as one of the most common departure points for many of Budapest’s major cruise companies. Around the bridge, you’ll find docks 10 and 11, from where cruises operated by well-known companies such as Legenda, Silverline, Floating Lotus, Duna, Mahart, and others depart.
Here are all the cruises in Budapest that depart near Elisabeth Bridge:
Elisabeth Bridge is one of the bridges connecting Buda and Pest, with a total length of approximately 378.6 meters. It serves as a major connection between Március 15. tér on the Pest side and the Buda side, close to Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, and Gellért Hill. Both locals and visitors use the bridge daily to cross between the two sides via its 6 traffic lanes and wide pedestrian sidewalks.
The bridge was originally built in 1903 and named after the famous Empress Elisabeth (Sisi). It was completely destroyed during World War II bombings and later rebuilt in 1964. The current version was not a reconstruction of the old one but rather a new, modern design adapted to the architectural style of the time.
Elisabeth Bridge is located in a very central area in the heart of Budapest, making it easy to reach on foot from both Pest and Buda. It’s just a short walk from several main metro stations: Ferenciek tere (M3 - the blue line) about a 5-minute walk, and Deák Ferenc tér (M1, M2, M3) about a 12-minute walk. Many bus lines also stop nearby, including 5, 7, 8E, 108E, 110, 112, and 133E, all stopping at Március 15. tér, only a 1-minute walk from the bridge.
If you’re taking a taxi, use the destination: “Erzsébet híd, Március 15. tér” (if you’re on the Pest side), or “Erzsébet híd, Gellért rakpart” (if you’re on the Buda side).
Március 15. tér: A central square located right next to the bridge on the Pest side. It’s one of the oldest squares in the city and features the ruins of the Roman fortress Contra-Aquincum from the 4th century.
Váci utca: Budapest’s most famous shopping street, located just a 3-minute walk from the bridge. It’s filled with cafés, brand stores, and restaurants. The street begins at Vörösmarty Square and ends near Március 15. tér, right by the bridge.
Danube Promenade: The city’s most famous riverside walkway, stretching along the Danube from the Chain Bridge in the north down to Elisabeth Bridge.
Inner City Parish Church (Belvárosi Plébániatemplom): A historic Catholic church dating back to the 11th century, located right next to the bridge. It’s one of the oldest churches in the Hungarian capital.
Gellért Hill: One of Budapest’s most popular areas, located right at the foot of the bridge. The hill is one of the city’s most famous viewpoints, offering scenic hiking paths leading up to the Citadella fortress and the Liberty Statue viewpoint, with breathtaking panoramas of the Danube and the Parliament Building. The walk to the top takes about 20 minutes from the bridge.
Gellért Hill Cave Church: A well-known church built inside the rock of Gellért Hill, about a 3-minute walk from Elisabeth Bridge. It’s open to visitors and highly recommended.
Gellért Baths: One of the most famous spa complexes in the world, located in a magnificent building at the foot of Gellért Hill, just a 7-minute walk from Elisabeth Bridge. The complex includes hot and cold pools, an outdoor thermal pool, and a luxurious spa area.
